Letter From The President, January 2024

To our valued NES customers and associates,

“We’re busy!”

That’s my answer when a neighbor, community member or customer asks me, “How’s business at NES?”  In fact, we’re busy across all areas of the business: Bearing Inspection, Bearing Testing and high-precision Bearing Manufacturing.

Industrial OEMs are navigating bearing plant closures and supply chain shortages that require NES inspection services to evaluate new sources of supply. The electrification movement has created a focus on bearing efficiency carried out on NES test rigs. The burgeoning aerospace industry is experiencing bearing supply chain challenges, opening the door for approval of NES bearings in a variety of type-certified aircraft engines and accessories. The PMA bearing market supporting MRO has extremely fast inventory turnover rates and commercial space launch operators are launching every 3-5 days. All of this has increased demand for NES custom bearings.

YOU KNOW the saying, “If you need something done, ask a busy person”?

I’d like to think that ‘person’ is NES. In the past 18 months, we’ve invested millions of dollars to increase our capacity and capability with new brick and mortar, new machines and equipment and additional personnel in engineering, quality and operations to support our growth initiative, driven by high demand for value-added services and faster lead times on custom bearings. Exciting times for NES and you.

In this month’s newsletter, you’ll learn about the basics of Hertzian stress inside a bearing and our new digital stitching technology on tapered roller bearings that uses multiple high-end inspection machines and in-house programs to correctly align rollers and raceways to improve the accuracy of the bearing modeling for the evaluation of stress distribution and bearing life.

We’ll be at the Heli-Expo in Anaheim, California, next month. The Heli-Expo kicks off the trade show season and we look forward to seeing many of you face-to-face.

Athletics and business run parallel, of course.

To become a champion requires goal setting, designing a process for success and following it. NES is proud to team up with Angelina Napoleon, eight-time New York State Track and Field and Cross-Country Champion, two-time National Steeplechase Champion and 2022-2023 Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Player of the Year, to demonstrate how success on the track and in bearing design and qualification run parallel paths.

Keep an eye out for future ads and articles with Angelina and NES.

Sincerely,

Chris Napoleon
